Super-Snooper Blogfest

Join me today to talk about one of my character's stuff. As part of this blogfest, I'll be giving away a digital copy of my novella, Buried in Briny Bay when it is released by Turquoise Morning Press on March 14th. So comment about my entry and let me know if you like cozy mysteries with a generous dose of humor. After you're done, click on the button on the right sidebar and go to the main site to choose another blog in this blogfest.

Which character's stuff is discussed below?

(Character) smiled as a stranger walked up and handed her the tab. “Hope you’ll come back for some more Southern hospitality.”

“I will,” the man said. “Best lemon ice box pie I ever ate.”

“House special,” she said with a big grin. After he walked out, (Character) leaned back down on the counter. “That guy sure seemed like a scout.”

“They have scouts for diners now?”

(Character's)eyes widened. “Don’t you have cable? Look at all those shows like that guy that tries to beat the record and get his name and picture on the wall, and there’s even one that highlights the twenty best places to eat across country. Food is something people never get tired of looking at and then wanting to devour. It could mean a booming business for the diner.”

“Whatever. You better hope Floyd doesn’t retire anytime soon from the barber shop.”

“I’ll drain him dry, honey. Besides, it’s one of the only professions where he can watch TV between customers. A match made in couch potato heaven."

  1. Hmm, I don't know your characters, so I can't really guess, but the idea of the scout is fascinating. I'd love to win your book! :) Thanks for participating.

  2. Couch potato heaven ... love that :)
No better way than good pie to get to a guy's weak spot.

Sounds right up my foodnetworkaddict alley.

  4. Hi,

Sounds like she works in a diner! I'm a Brit, and I'm guessing the scout is what we call a food critic! ;)

  5. I've never heard of lemon ice box pie, but I like the sound of it. I have a friend who also writes cozy mysteries, and I think they're a fascinating genre. They kind of grow on you after a while! I'd certainly be interested in reading your novella.

  6. Well,

This sounds like a diner in Mayberry... from the Andy Griffin show. I just don't remember a diner in that show, but Floyd was definitely the barber.

  7. Francine, you're right! It is a diner. :) In the US, there are shows that go around and show iconic places for food. There was one on the Food Network about diners across country. there's also a show where the guy goes from place to place and takes the food challenge to eat an enormous meal in a certain amount of time, sometimes loaded with habaneros or other such taste-blasting hot stuff.

Michael, Briny Bay is very much like Mayberry. Good analogy.

Mara, lemon icebox pie is sort of like key lime(but lemon, obviously). It has whipped cream instead of the meringue on a lemon meringue pie, and it's served very cold. My favorite!

This is Trixe, one of the heroines in the Briny bay series.
