NURSING SECOND CHANCES
A Honey Creek Sweet Romance
Kiersten Hart left Honey Creek the minute she graduated high school and never looked back. When her sister Jeanine is widowed and left to raise two children alone, Kiersten moves back on a temporary basis. When Charles steps in and sweeps her off her feet, she has to decide if the wounds from her childhood can be mended.
After his wife died, Charles Webber swore he’d never love anyone again. He buried himself in his work and didn’t look up until he found out his son was sick. Moving to Honey Creek was supposed to make things easier. Kiersten does little to help keep things simple. Though he is taken with her, he soon realizes the casual relationship they agreed on is turning serious. As their expiration date approaches, Charles must decide if Kiersten is worth the risk.

No Bones about it-SKELETON IN A DEAD SPACE is Great
Award-winning historical novelist makes a fine debut in the mystery field with SKELETON IN A DEAD SPACE. Alter gives readers a twisty plot, excellent use of setting, and a very likable protagonist. I hope this is just the first of many novels about realtor/detective Kelly O'Connell! -- Livia J. Washburn, author of the Fresh Baked Mystery series and the Literary Tour Mystery series..
Skeleton in a Dead Space is a must-read for cozy fans. Kelly O’Connell is an engaging realtor with adorable daughters and a talent for trouble. Alter’s mystery debut stands on a lasting foundation of sinister clients and suspect houses. Location, location, location—for murder!—Charlotte Hinger, author of Deadly Descent and Lethal Lineage.
An endearing sleuth, a skeleton behind the spice cupboard, and a fistful of subplots that will keep you guessing. A nicely done debut by an author to watch.--Susan Wittig Albert, author of the China Bayles mysteries
"Enjoy walking in Fort Worth as you follow a profusion of characters in this complicated tale. Wait, as did I, until you reach the very last pages to find the truth of the story. You likely won't figure it out earlier." —Margaret Waring
"I was thoroughly drawn into the story, its twists, turns and layers. Many characters in the story are involved in the mystery, which makes it all the more interesting." —Ruth J. Hartman "
I love reading mysteries, and it is rare to find a book like Skeleton in a Dead Space that is well written AND suspenseful AND difficult to put down. The characters have depth and are interesting, making this wonderful book even better. Definitely worth reading. Great mystery!" —Mrs. Walter, Book Lover 111101

Reviews
“A truly good read, perfect for an afternoon swinging away with the wind chimes playing and the spring sun shining.” ~Amazon Review
“…a large dose of sexual tension--the chemistry between Sam and Elise sizzles--some great suspense that keeps the pages turning and you have a sure winner in this story of love lost, regret and redemption. If Kentucky Blues is typical of Cat Shaffer's books, prepare to add her to your automatic read list.” ~Amazon Review

In Honor of 9/11
A TEARDROP FELL
A teardrop fell upon the ground,
The day the New York towers came down.
For evil came to town that day,
And tried to kill the light that way.
So God dispensed his angels there,
To ride with firemen in their hair,
To help the trapped to find a door,
And pray for dogs to find some more.
But most of all they brought their hope,
To all the sad, unhappy folks,
And wrapped them all in God’s true love,
So they could vanquish evil ones.
Lady Liberty stood her ground,
While patriotism swelled in towns.
Then hope and love diminished fear,
And strength grew with each passing year.
The evil didn’t win that day,
It couldn’t keep the light at bay.
The spirit rose among us all,
And vanquished evil, made it fall.
